Telangana Handicrafts Development Corporation (TGHDC) was set up in the year 2014 under the Companies Act, 2013.
The primary objectives of Telangana Handicrafts Development Corporation Ltd are promotion, development and marketing of artistic handicrafts and textiles and welfare of about more than one lakh craft persons working in different craft pockets spread all over Telangana.
Every year, a number of schemes are drawn and implemented in fulfillment of these objectives with the financial assistance from the Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, New Delhi as well as State Government.
Telangana Handicrafts Development Corporation Ltd operates 8 sales emporias in Telangana and one at New Delhi & Kolkata, and one production center in Hyderabad
The Telangana Handicrafts Development Corporation Ltd has achieved a sales turnover of Rs. 84.16 crores in the year 2022-23 against a target of 81.00 crores. A Sales Target of Rs.109.00 crores has been fixed for the current year i.e., 2023-24.
Telangana Handicrafts Development Corporation Ltd organizes Exhibitions/Craft Bazaars in the State of Telangana. The TGHDC also hosts major events like ‘Gandhi Shilp Bazaars’ organized by the Development Commissioner for Handicrafts, Ministry of Textiles, Govt. of India in Hyderabad and other potential cities of Telangana.
To promote the new trademark/brand "Golkonda" and to popularize Telangana Handicrafts, the Corporation launched its products through the Tweaves and Crafts e-commerce platform, in collaboration with TSCO under the Department of Handlooms & Textiles, Government of Telangana. Additionally, the Corporation modernized all its showrooms to provide a better ambiance for customers.
TGHDC organizes every year training programmes for skill up-gradation, Design Development, Workshops etc., to artisans by inviting the designers from reputed institutions to develop the skills of artisans as well as the products, to meet the changing market demand and trends. About 500 craft persons are benefited every year from these programmes.
The Corporation has established a Common Facility Centre at Hasthakala Bhavan, Musheerabad, Hyderabad for Multicrafts. It is also planning to set up more CFSC’s at need based craft clusters.
TGHDC provides improved tool kits to the artisans to improve their efficiency. TGHDC organizes Study Tours, Seminars from time to time in different crafts for up-gradation of skills and knowledge in the improved process techniques.
Telangana Handicrafts Development Corporation Ltd offers Ten State Awards every year to Master Craft persons, distinguished in their respective fields, contributed to the development.
Telangana Handicrafts Development Corporation Ltd has obtained registration for Ten prominent and traditional crafts of Telangana i.e., Nirmal Paintings/ Nirmal Furniture; Pembarthy Brass Sheet Metal; Cheriyal Paintings; Silver Filigree; Nirmal Toys and Crafts; Dokra Casting and Cotton Durries. These are registered under Geographical Indication Registration Act, to protect the crafts from being copied or exploited and for improved market linkage, brand identity and for sustained market opportunities.
